perhaps my central belief (if you can call it that) rests in the saying, ‘the more you look, the more you see.’ and this, to me, feels like the perfect embodiment of that phrase. moments of connection and intimacy are everywhere. they can be glimpsed in expansive nature and in crammed urban spaces. they can be spotted in actual people, and in the objects and environments that people have left their mark on in some way. we leave imprints of our presence everywhere we go, and i am on a seemingly constant search for the more intimate and glossed over imprints.

some of my favorite photos are the so-called simplest— the pile of belongings left on the beach by a group of friends in the water, hands resting around a table, the remnants of a shared meal. i love photos like this because they feel like a never-ending game of where’s waldo; the more you look, the more you see. look closely at what’s been left on a cafe table and you might start to count the dishes: six mugs of hot chocolate, but only three plates; what looks like only four spoons, but at a closer glance you see the two others blending in. it’s only tableware, but a moment’s pause to look a little closer and the familiarity between the group might be revealed to you, along with the afternoon treats that were shared between them. these pauses are wonderful little pockets into all of the life that goes on around us. to walk through life with a microscope is to see that acts and glimpses of community and shared experience are everywhere, whether or not we choose to look out for them.

i struggled with what to name this, because to me, this project best encapsulates what it is i try to achieve with the photos i take. this is an ongoing project and perhaps its name will change, but for now, we shall call it glimpses. i invite you to stay a while and see what you find.
